  • Do You Wish the New BlackBerry Bold 9700 Was Bigger? Like Say the Same Size as the Original Bold??

    Kevin Michaluk
    6 Nov 2009 | 5:22 pm
Do You Want Your New BlackBerry Bold to be Big or Small?(poll) Since getting my new BlackBerry Bold 9700 earlier this week I have been living on cloud nine. It's uber fast. The optical trackpad is silky smooth. The 3.2 megapixel camera is noticeably better than the original Bold's and the additional flash memory boosts operating performance considerably. And I've been blown away by the battery life so far -- over 48 hours before needing to charge!!! With positives oozing out of the device, the only thing that I have had to really come to terms with is how much smaller the new Bold 9700…

    6 Nov 2009 | 12:46 pm
A few months back Verizon Fios released an application that allows users to control their DVR from a mobile device. The app lets you search, view TV listings, record programs and more. While it was a step in the right direction, I was still frustrated that my cable company, Cablevision, had yet to release their own. Well a few months down the road, Cablevision finally got it together and revealed a web portal that allowed users to control their DVR, and Thursday they finally unveiled a mobile site for doing the same. While not a full featured app (as we could hope for down the road) the…

  • Go Green Theme for BlackBerry: An Eco Masterpiece?

    Cody Buchanan
    6 Nov 2009 | 2:44 pm
For starters, I should note that I’m extremely biased towards anything environmentally friendly. I’m studying to be an environmental engineer, I’m in my schools Go Green and Ecology club, and I drive a hybrid. So you can imagine my surprise and joy to find a theme for my BlackBerry that can express my love for the environment. The Go Green Theme, by Music’s BlackBerry, is perfect for me. First of all, the theme starts off with a background of a grass field and a blue sky. In many minds, that’s what an environmentally friendly world would look like. Personally, the image gives me…

  • AT&T Sues Verizon over Map for That Commericials

    3 Nov 2009 | 2:07 pm
On the pathetic scale this rates a 9/10. Apparently AT&T just filed suit against Verizon over the “There’s a Map for That” ads, which is an obvious jab at AT&T’s “There’s an App for That” ads. According to the suit, AT&T feels that the map that Verizon shows of their coverage indicates no coverage whatsoever and is misleading. Honestly AT&T, this is going to backfire in your face like all of the other **** poor decisions you have made over the last couple of years. One in three iPhone owners has texted or emailed their significant other to break up. One in three iPhone owners say that, if their partner had out-of-date gadgets, it would be a turnoff. • BlackBerry Shipments Grew 400% Faster Than The iPhone In Q3

    Robb Dunewood

According to an IDG report, year over year shipment growth for the BlackBerry grew by 35.7%.  In Q3 ‘08, 14.6% of smartphones sold worldwide were BlackBerrys.  In Q3 ‘09, 19% of smartphones sold were BlackBerrys. In contrast, iPhone shipments grew by only 7.1%.  Now, don’t get me wrong…  7.1% growth in this economy is pretty darn good.  It’s 400%, or, 5 times less than what the BlackBerry did, but, still pretty good none the less.[Source]BlackBerry Shipments Grew 400% Faster Than The iPhone In Q3 is a post from: RIMarkable

Oftentimes we get excited when we see that a popular application has been updated. For me, the excitement comes from wondering whether any of the improvements I’ve thought about have been implemented. That makes it a bit disappointing when an update comes without a change log. Google has done this twice recently. They’ve updated their Google Maps and Gmail applications for BlackBerry, but haven’t let users know exactly what changed. That usually means there are just some bug fixes, which is fine. If you have these apps, you probably want the bug corrections. I learned about…
  • BlackBerry News From The Wire for the Week of 11/2/2009

    Joe
    5 Nov 2009 | 9:54 am
I’ll admit, I was a bit distracted from the BlackBerry world this week by this. Still, there’s plenty of BlackBerry stuff to discuss. For instance, Verizon announced the Curve 8530, to be known as the Curve2. It’ll hit shelves and the Web on November 20 for $99.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate. I’ve been telling people that if you’re not a big video user, this is a great deal. It features a 528 MHz processor, Wi-Fi, and really most features of new BlackBerry models except the screen. It’s better than its cousin, the 8520, because its on Verizon’s 3G…
  • Use Dropbox to back up your BlackBerry and more

    Joe
    5 Nov 2009 | 4:30 am
I’ve seen a lot of online file storage sites over the past few years, but for some reason Dropbox is catching on better than almost all of them. Maybe it’s because they’ve developed an excellent application across the three major platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux). Maybe it’s because their interface is the most user-friendly i’ve seen. In any case, I’ve been recommending it to people ever since someone at the office got me hooked. You can also access Dropbox from your BlackBerry, and according to BerryReview, it could be getting easier. They’ve recently…
  • Theme Review Wednesdays: VistaLike, Wood Work, Metalic

    4 Nov 2009 | 8:00 am
How do you choose your BlackBerry theme? Do you just pick ones that look nice? Or are you loyal to a particular developer? When I search around themes for these bi-weekly reviews, I admit bias towards developers. For instance, if Hedone comes out with a new theme between these features — as they did this past week — I’ll mostly likely review it. Ditto for developers like Cherri Chiodo. I feel like I can go to them for solid themes every time. This week, though, I’m going back to a few old friends who might feel a bit neglected, BlackBerry Theme Park and Gadget Bean.

I was wondering if it is possible to create a button in cp that will open directly to your pictures screen, or to a specific folder on your sd card? i'm thinking this would involve finding the "net_rim_bb_..." loader files that correlate to (the native picture reviewing system at least) and for the specific folder on the SD card, creating a third party app button and then typing in the system directory in the space for app name (ex: SD Card/Blackberry/ Media/ Pictures) anyone ever tried this? Any suggestions/answers?

New browser for the BlackBerry on the way? RIM is advertising for a Canadian-based WebKit developer, following its acquisition of Torch Mobile (a company that developed the WebKit-based Iris Browser). Both bits of evidence irrefutably point to the fact that RIM knows the BlackBerry browser is a bit rubbish and is trying to fix it. WebKit is a rendering engine that's used, most notably, in Apple's Safari (both on desktop and in the iPhone) and Google's Chrome browsers. It's also used in Symbian's S60 browser which can be found on Nokia, Samsung and LG handsets. Android's browser is based on…

  • BlackBerry Web Update Now Works with Firefox!

    Stephen Hunter
    18 Oct 2009 | 10:18 pm
I’m not sure when this happened, but I just decided to try out the Web Update again today, and it now supports not only Internet Explorer, but Firefox as well! Although it doesn’t install as a normal Firefox Extension, you have to download and run a MSI installation file (31 mb, so Windows only for now), but I can confirm that it does work. Visit http://na.blackberry.com/eng/update to try it out and update your phone (official carrier OS’s only of course).

  • AT&T Releasing White Curve 8900?

    5 Nov 2009 | 9:55 am
This was just sent to us by our AT&T ninja. As the image shows, it's a semi-white BlackBerry Curve 8900. This poster is apart of AT&T's holiday collateral. We know that there have been skins made for this phone, but AT&T does not sell those. It would be confusing to potential customers to advertise a device's skin if it wasn't even purchasable. We think this might be a color change to represent the holidays or "snow" promotions that about to start, but we honestly don't know. What do you think?
